Napoleon's Flintlock Pistol – Saint-Étienne, France 1806
Availability: 10 in stock
SKU: PIC-007Replica of an 1806 flintlock pistol associated with Napoleon I and linked to Saint-Étienne, home to one of France's great arms manufacturers. The grip features a medallion with the emperor's "N" surrounded by laurel, and the lock is engraved with the mark of the Imperial Manufacture of Saint-Étienne. Flintlock pistols ignited the gunpowder with the spark produced by a flint striking a steel piece, and they had to be reloaded through the muzzle after each shot. They were the standard sidearm of the Napoleonic era for the cavalry and officers. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1814 and again in 1815, consolidated many of the reforms of the Revolution and is considered one of history's greatest military geniuses, leading campaigns that mobilized armies of unprecedented size in Europe.
