Napoleon's 2-Barrel Flintlock Pistol – Saint-Étienne, France 1806
Availability: 7 in stock
SKU: PIC-006A replica of the double-barreled flintlock pistol traditionally associated with Napoleon I, dated 1806 and linked to Saint-Étienne, home to one of France's major arms manufacturers, which supplied the Empire's armies during the Napoleonic Wars. The grip bears the emperor's insignia, the "N," typical of luxury and presentation weapons of the period, and the barrels are inscribed with "SAINT-ETIENNE." According to tradition, Napoleon used it as a travel pistol. Its double barrel offered a clear advantage: in an era when reloading a flintlock required pouring the gunpowder, inserting the bullet, and striking it with the ramrod, having a second, immediate shot could be decisive. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), Emperor of the French between 1804 and 1814 and again in 1815, is considered one of the great military geniuses in history: he consolidated many reforms of the Revolution and led campaigns that mobilized armies of a size never before seen in Europe, with famous victories and equally resounding defeats.
