Great two-handed swords became widespread in the Late Middle Ages, when plate armor made shields increasingly less necessary, allowing knights to wield their weapons with both hands. Their long blades provided reach, and their extended hilt enabled broad, powerful blows without sacrificing accuracy. This imposing and elegant piece draws inspiration from the weapons of knights from that period.

It is presented alongside a fictional legend: the sword "Roscrame," "the Blade of the Broken Shields," forged in the forges of Montbray and wielded by the knight Alaric de Lione at the Battle of Montferrand; the red seal on the pommel is said to be the emblem of the Order of the Bloody Lily. Characters, places, and the order itself are all invented, forming part of the narrative that accompanies the piece.
