The M4 bayonet was adopted in 1944 for the M1 carbine, the light weapon carried by officers, drivers, gunners, and support troops of the U.S. Army. It was derived from the M3 combat knife: it retained its blade and its handle of stacked leather washers, and added a barrel ring to the guard and a rifle attachment mechanism to the pommel. It was used at the end of World War II and later in Korea and Vietnam; from the 1950s onward, the leather handle was replaced with a black plastic one. The original bayonet was about 30 cm long, with a blade of about 17 cm.

This replica reproduces the World War II version, with a leather handle, and comes with its M8A1 scabbard: olive green body, metal throat marked "US M8A1," and canvas hanger with a wire hook that allowed it to be carried on a field belt.
