The flintlock pistol was the standard handgun throughout the 18th century. When the trigger was pulled, the hammer struck the frizzen with its flint, and the spark ignited the powder in the pan, which in turn ignited the charge in the barrel. It was muzzle-loaded with gunpowder, a bullet, and a wad of paper, so in combat it usually fired only once; afterward, the shooter would resort to a saber or use the pistol as a mace.

This reproduction has a brass-colored barrel and fittings, a metallic gray flintlock with engravings, and a wooden stock topped with an ornate pommel. It measures 38 cm and weighs 660 g. Its mechanism replicates the loading and firing motions, although it does not fire.
