80 cm Roman Gladius with Medallion Scabbard
Availability: 2 in stock
SKU: ESP-018The gladius was the short sword carried by Roman legionaries as their primary weapon in close combat, designed mainly for thrusting at close range in close formation alongside the shield (scutum). It was worn hanging from the side, secured by the rings of the scabbard, like those reproduced on this piece.
This sword is a decorative interpretation of the gladius, not a replica of a specific archaeological example. Its embossed fittings and the circular medallion in the centre of the scabbard evoke the Roman custom of decorating military equipment with symbols and emblems.

General information

- Decorative Roman gladius
- Recommended use

This sword features a straight, double-edged blade of polished steel with a central ridge and a slight taper to an elongated point. The guard and pommel are made of metal with embossed decoration and an antique silver finish, while the black hilt is reinforced with rings of the same metal. Historical gladii typically had these fittings made of wood or bone, so this finish is a stylised interpretation intended for a decorative piece. The dark-coloured scabbard is adorned with a relief medallion, a ringed band, and a matching chape.
